Health Awareness Day
Kumud Patel, service manager at Lowther Road day service in North London, organised a Health Awareness day on 7th June.
Kumud said: “The aim of the day was to introduce alternative ways for the people we support to look after their well-being. People often associate health with visits to the doctors and might not be aware of all the alternatives available that can contribute to general well being”.
Sessions were delivered for service users and guests. These included yoga sessions by professionals from Yoga Mission, sports sessions by Karman Sports and massage therapy by a therapist from Fitness First.
Alex Graybow presented drama and movement therapy for the guests; and an exhibition of art, pottery and health food was organised by the Lowther Road staff team. Other activities available were face painting and nail painting by a volunteer who supported the day.
Local community groups and businesses got involved providing health snacks and drinks. Morrison’s Supermarket also pitched in by allowing guests to park their cars in their parking bay on the day.
The day was a huge success and demonstrated how Real Life Options can join forces with the local community to provide inspirational and entertaining events.
